About Us
It was the post emergency period where the Atmosphere was charged with the rejuvenation of the society .It was in this period that the need for the transformation of rural women and children started entering into our mind very strognly . We were a group of house wives with a strong social awareness. We came together about 30 years ago for sharing our thoughts on social issues. As many of the members were having school going children we started ' Jijamata Bal Sanskar Kendra ', a platform for teaching the basic moral values and civic sense to the children. As the children grew in age the locals demanded for starting a playschool and Kindergarten, which subsequently grew into a full fledged primary school. As our activities increased we realized the need of having a formal organization. Thus ' Mata Balak Utkarsha Pratishthan ' ( MBUP ), a non profit making voluntary NGO, officially came into existence in 1979..As we made inroads into the rural area around Sangola , our contacts with the rural women improved. We saw and heard about many incidents of atrocities against women.
The social injustice prompted us to provide them all possible support. 'Anyaaya Nivaran Samiti' (a committee for eradication of injustice towards women) was thus formed. The objective of this committee was to provide counseling, legal support and at times shelter to the suffering women.
These few initiatives in the early years of MBUP triggered further projects in the areas of ' Mother - Child ' empowerment. Most of those could be categorized under Health program, Child development, Cluster Development, Self Help Groups ( SHGs) and Formal as well as informal education.
From a modest beginning in 1978 our work has grown into a movement now .Many of our volunteers were sufferers earlier who transformed their lives with our assistance. Today MBUP has occupied a vital part in the lives of the people staying in the rural areas around Sangola. We have decided to have a focus on the family unit as a whole and have accordingly charted out projects such as Ghongadi Cluster development. We have come a long way. However we see bigger challenges in the future . Our team of MBUP is geared up to take up these challenge.
